sans titre (hallway), 1998
A white passageway that the spectator can cross.. on each wall there is a text, one written in Helvetica, the other in Dom Casual. The first line, the highest up, asks a question. The next line, opposite side, slightly lower, responds and so on and so forth. If the text is read in this manner, the spectator’s line of vision traces diagonals across his/her own body from top to bottom. He/she also enters from one end and exits the other.
Text:
Ils ne peuvent pas rentrer chez eux. They can’t go home.
Qui? Who?
Eux. Them.
Pourquoi? Why?
Parce qu’il y a du verre cassé sur le chemin. Because there is broken glass on the ground.
Et s’ils mettaient des bottes “anti-verres?” And if they were to put on “anti-glass” boots?
Ils seraient eux plus bottes “anti-verres.” They would be them plus “anti-glass” boots.
