Hour Lass (2009)

Moms have no time. No time for themselves, no time outside of their schedules. They don’t brush just their teeth in the morning, but many sets of teeth depending on how many teeth live in their homes. They don’t just have to take into account whether or not trans fat will enter into their own systems that day, but rather whether it will clog up other peoples systems as well. They decide on the health of other human bodies. How powerful! How huge! How exhausting! They form other people, preparing them for life: how to be kind to others, how to recycle and why, how to practice piano every day, how to bring your plate to the sink when you’re finished eating. This list is endless, some things are more important than others but they all take time and lots of it.

Jennifer Leone and Kate Ross, two Moms are proposing giving Mom some time back. They are proposing a small gesture, just for an evening, allowing Mom to relax and put her feet up. And it’s called a “drop off.” It is a full course meal that comes to Mom’s home. Mom doesn’t have to worry about feeding that night. Just eating.

Leone and Ross and proposing this dropoff within the context of an artistic endeavor where they transform into superheroes, superMoms really with costumes and all. These superheroes represent all Moms, who never have time, but get it done anyway. They have to.

The artwork.

The dropoff is a performance piece. When the food comes, so does a team of a cameramen documenting it. There is a possibility of having an “eat in,” where our caped Mamas may join the recipient(s) for a cordial moment together.

Video work and photographs will come out of the performance.

The comics.

Donald Jackson, graphic novelist, will be working closely with superheroes to create another aspect of their artistic lives: the comics. Large format stills will be created depicted the “behind the scenes” lives of the duo. (tip of the hat to Lichtenstein)

A kitchen will have many dimensions, a dressing room will be an abyss…

Small format comic strips will also be created for distribution (ex. insert in art voice)

The public

People can receive a dropoff by various methods:

  1. a referral

  2. an unexpected gift

  3. a gallery performance

(this list is not exhaustive)

Our Second Home Project

The superheroes wish to spend a weekend getaway in their second home, Wegman’s.

The most appropriate time for this performance piece would be in the Spring when the patio furniture is on display so that the ladies have a place to take a load off in the dark hours. Food would be at for their taking, a spa moment (nail varnishing), would take place as well assisting consumers in making choices for good products. (Wegman’s brand taking precedent of course!)

The villains

Our heroes may need to go up against:

Chuck E. Cheese

Wendy

Ronald McDonald

Burger King
