Prey, 2009

“As long as we treat eating as entertainment instead of as a health issue, no medical treatment will prevent the illness epidemic.” Judy E. Buss, Lakeland, Florida

“Eating” can be defined according to context. We can refuel with a breakfast cereal, we can share a moment made more pleasurable enjoying a common dinner, we can “snack” when our mouths just simply need to have something inside of them, we “indulge” with a Sunday evening hot fudge Sunday - that last chance of forgetting the work week awaits, we nourish with our breasts or plastic made bottles filled with human milk or a vitamin filled man made creation, we gorge when famished and we nibble when we have “un petit creux” as the French say. (a little hollow)

Sometimes we “binge.” I wonder where the binge originated. I wonder if they binge in France. My gut instinct has me doubting.

The United States has such strange foods sometimes that people imbibe, uncaring to the poisonous characteristics they possess. I see these foods in the stores and they always amaze me – the bright colors, the artificial appearance. I never see anyone actually eat them. But they do. These foods are strangely both enticing and inviting.

Prey concerns these questions, but deciding what or who the actual prey is in the video is of the viewer’s concern.
